Current Condition of Artwork:

Old hinges on top edge of verso. Adhesive residue with hinges and verso in the bottom left corner. Losses on the back of the elephant, in the bottom left corner, and along the edges, especially in the back corner; moderate losses throughout. Random minor accretions throughout. Tide line across the center. Tears/fractures with the loss in the bottom corner. Minor vertical cockling. Minor surface grime. Discrete areas of active flaking. Moderate cracking throughout.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Consolidate flaking paint.
  • Fill/tone losses (optional).
  • Reduce accretions (optional).
