Current Condition of Artwork:

Pressure sensitive tape hinges on top edge of verso. Adhesive residue with hinges and along fractures across bottom and bottom corner. Moderate accretions throughout support and image. Crudely repaired fractures and inpainting. Moderate surface grime and moderate abrasions along edges. Image has a mottled appearance, especially in the blue background. Tattered edges overall with tears in the right corner and bottom left. Delamination along edges and in the margin of the lower left corner. Creases/folds around the fractures at the bottom. Extensive losses to image with support losses, along edges, and in a few other random places. Faint stains and discoloration throughout image. Moderate cleavage/flaking overall.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Consolidate flaking paint.
  • Reduce pressure sensitive tape and adhesive mechanically.
  • Mend tears/readhere delaminating support layers.
  • Reduce accretions (optional).
  • Fill/tone losses (optional).
