Current Condition of Artwork:

Verso has two pressure sensitive tape hinges, eight brown paper tapes, and one patch. Adhesive residue with attachments. Localized embrittlement due to corrosive media. Losses along top and right edges of support. Abrasions/skinning along support edges. Random minor accretions and minor surface grime. Tears/fractures along tattered right edge. Delamination of support along edge losses. Abrasions/burnishing along margins. Extensive losses, cracking, and cleavage/flaking throughout image. Silver has become friable/powdery. Cu+ (Copper I) green used on chariot has become corrosive and has turned brownish. Random minor accretions throughout image.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Consolidate flaking paint.
  • Reduce pressure sensitive tapes and adhesive mechanically.
  • Mend tears, readhere delaminating support layers.
  • Fill/tone support losses (optional).
