Current Condition of Artwork:

Remnants of paper backing and pressure sensitive tape in upper left and right corners on verso. Adhesive residue with backing paper and on top edge of verso. Some embrittlement due to oxidized surface coating. Random minor accretions. Losses in upper left corner, right top edge, and lower right corner; moderate losses overall, some by insect grazing. Extensive insect grazing overall. Minor edge tears, tears in upper and lower left, and in the green parasol in the upper right corner. Shiny amber surface coating over figures and foreground. Yellow surface coating changes color/contrast overall. Minor surface grime. Cockling along upper right edge. Abrasions/burnishing along edges. Corrosive ink/pigments in some greens, especially the parasol in the upper right corner. Moderate cracking overall.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Reduce pressure sensitive tape on verso.
  • Mend/reinforce edge tears, fracture.
  • Complete backing reduction (optional).
  • Fill/tone losses (optional).
