Indian, Mughal

Portrait of a Courtier, 17th Century

Opaque Watercolor

Partial Gift of Brother Daniel Burke

Current Condition of Artwork:

The image is in good condition. It has some wormholes across the center of the support and some grazing along the colored borders. There is some minor grazing on the print itself, some horizontal creasing in the mounting, and some minor flaking in the figure's hat. Some accretions on the blue paper. Mat is loose.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Add hinges to mat.
  • Consolidate flaking paint.
  • Reduce blue paper accretions.
  • Tone/fill losses in orange border (optional).

Estimated Cost of Treatment:      $500.00
