Gift of Dr. Alvin O. Bellak

Current Condition of Artwork:

Linen tape hinges to upper left and right corners of verso, leaving adhesive residue. Losses to top corner and upper right edge of support. Moderate losses overall to image. Abrasions/skinning along edges of support and image, especially in upper right corner and right corner edge. Insect losses and accretions to support and image. Minor to moderate surface grime overall to support. Random minor accretions. Puncture in sky below loss to top corner. Stains in bottom corner and tide lines throughout foreground. Horizontal marks across lower half from creasing. Moderate cracking overall to image. Random minor active flaking to image. Bleeding/blurring in upper left corner black into yellowed margin.

Conservation Treatment Proposed:

  • Consolidate flaking paint.
  • Mend puncture to top corner, reinforce loss to top corner.
  • Fill/tone loss to top corner (optional).
  • Reduce line tape hinges on verso (optional).

Estimated Cost of Treatment:      $500.00
