Banning conversion therapy was our first and foremost goal in this project. Conversion therapy, the practice of attempting to change a person’s sexual orientation, or “convert” them, is a highly damaging procedure that has absolutely no actual scientific basis for success, and can often irreparably damage the person in question. Despite its flaws, it is still permitted in 46 of the 50 states, though due to recent outrage at the death of a transgirl, Leelah Alcorn, who cited the conversion therapy that she was forced to attend as one of the main causes of her suicide, that may soon change. President Obama himself has issued a statement condemning conversion therapy, and offering hope of new legislation in the future that could permanently remove it from the United States. Pictured is a young girl because our goal is to have the practice of conversion therapy banned for all minors under the age of 18. This art is representative of our firm belief in people’s right to love without restrictions, and the power of choice.
